On this episode, Elio interviews Carrington Carter, Co-Founder of Getaway Society, East Chop Capital and McKinley Carter Enterprises. Getaway Society is a luxury vacation rental home company with properties in Martha’s Vineyard, Hilton Head, the Poconos, Gatlinburg, and Orlando. Carrington discusses how reading Rich Dad Poor Dad and his Dad’s experience of racism in Corporate America inspired him to become an entrepreneur. He began his entrepreneurial journey by starting McKinley Carter, a real estate investment and property management company that now has over $20M in assets under management. With the support of his network of over 100 LPs, Carrington and his Co-Founder Calvin Butts Jr. raised $15 million in private equity to invest in the $114 billion global vacation rental home market. The fund also plans to support companies in technology, financial services, media, and sports. Carrington delves into the vacation rental market, the struggles of raising funding while black, and how he is managing his own bias when it comes to investing.
